Black Newspapers History Month!... 'Newspaper Of The Week!'...Milwaukee Community Journal!

Our 'Newspaper Of The Week'

is:

...The Milwaukee Community Journal!

Answering the urgent need to get Our Beautiful

Black Stories and Accomplishments out to Our Communities,

The Honorable Patricia O'Flynn Thomas established

The Milwaukee Community Journal in 1976. Letting

the chips fall where they may, she engineered,

her periodical to become the largest Beautiful Black

newspaper in the whole state! Yes, Your Honor!

And with great acumen and journalistic savvy, the Editor,

The Honorable Thomas E. Mitchell guides the

piercing stories and perspectives for which Our Readers crave.

The popular and Award-Winning columnist,

The Honorable Mikel Kwaku Osei Holt, who is now the

Associate Publisher, has

pumped out relevant stories

for over 4 decades like its nobody's

business, and has produced the "Signifyin'"

column that many people probably rush to

read first when they open the paper.

This "Sparkling Jewel" in Our Community,

which serves as a broadcasting beacon,

and a 'heads up' to Our Folk,

is a regional and state institution that we will

need far into our days and years ahead!

Black Newspapers History Month!... 'Newspaper Of The Week!'...The Milwaukee Defender!

Our 'Newspaper Of The Week'

is:

...The Milwaukee Defender!

The Honorable Dr. Mary Ellen Shadd-Strong started

publishing The Milwaukee Defender in 1956. It

was loosely associated with the Chicago Defender.

Known for its militant editorials and article

perspectives, its reputation with the white

population remained tense.

It published until 1958.

Black Newspapers History Month!... 'Newspaper Of The Week!'...The Sunday School Herald!

Our 'Newspaper Of The Week'

is:

...The Sunday School Herald!

A Baptist minister, in 1892,

The Honorable Reverend L. L. Campbell, founded

The Sunday School Herald to give moral and

social instruction to his congregation and the

surrounding community.

The attendance at his church swelled.

However, the newspaper is said to have lasted only a year.
