...The Free Citizen!

Founded and edited in 1874 by The Honorable E. A. Webster,

The Free Citizen, published in Orangeburg, 

South Carolina, was a Republican-oriented 

newspaper supporting Our Beautiful Black 

Community during Reconstruction. 

Unfortunately, it had to close in 1876.

Black Basketball History Month (October)!... Honors The 'Hoopster Of The Week!'

Black Rappers History Month (July)!...Pumps Fists For Rapster Of The Week!

Black Newspapers History Month was 

founded by Ralph C. Winge, D.D.S.

in 2025 to acknowledge, praise, and respect 

the Publishers, Editors, Reporters, 

Typesetters, Secretaries, Agents, 

Distributors, Newsstands, Paperboys, 

and all of the the Team Members, 

over the many decades, necessary 

to produce and disseminate to Our

Black Beautiful Populations the needed 

paper ( and now digital) instruments 

to inform, inspire, and promote literacy, 

so that Our People can make better 

decisions, remember Our Great Histories, 

to keep Our People up on current events,

to engage our populations to organize, 

provide tips and methods to stay safe 

in potentially-hostile environments, 

and create mechanisms to construct 

Our Enterprises for Our Outstanding Futures.

The Founder of Black Newspapers History Month,

Ralph C. Winge, D.D.S.,

is also a Historical Newspaper enthusiast

and USC Dental School Graduate.
