Our 'Newspaper Of The Week'
Some people called the attorney, orator, and activist,
The Honorable Robert Charles O'Hara Benjamin
a 'loud mouth and rabble rouser' in Birmingham,
Alabama just because he started publishing and
editing The Negro American in 1886. Called
'the most outspoken newspaper in Birmingham,'
under his pen mane,'Cicero,' he vehemently
denounced the increasing number of lynchings
and violent treatments of Our Beautiful Black People.
Well, the klan ran him out of town during his
first year of scathing essays. After he left,
The Honorable J. W. White, The Honorable Albert Boyd,
and The Honorable A. N. Jackson,
edited and publish the periodical.
After a hair-raising run, the paper closed in 1891.
Black Newspapers History Month,
celebrated every year in January, was
founded by Ralph C. Winge, D.D.S.
in 2025 to acknowledge, praise, and respect
the Publishers, Editors, Reporters,
Typesetters, Secretaries, Agents,
Distributors, Newsstands, Paperboys,
and all of the the Team Members,
over the many decades, necessary
to produce and disseminate to Our
Black Beautiful Populations the needed
paper ( and now digital) instruments
to inform, inspire, and promote literacy,
so that Our People can make better
decisions, remember Our Great Histories,
to keep Our People up on current events,
to engage our populations to organize,
provide tips and methods to stay safe
in potentially-hostile environments,
and create mechanisms to construct
Our Enterprises for Our Outstanding Futures.
