Black Newspapers History Month!... 'Newspaper Of The Week!'...The People's Advocate!

Our 'Newspaper Of The Week'

is:

...The People's Advocate!

The publisher and business manager,

The Honorable Traverse Benjamin Pinn,

and the editor, an educator and  lawyer,

The Honorable John Wesley Cromwell,

co-founded the first Black weekly newspaper in

Alexandria, Virginia in April of 1876. Its motto

was, " Principles, not men, but men as the

representative of principles." It advocated for,

among many other things, educational equality,

voting rights, water rights and fair

employment access.

In 1890, the paper ceased to exist.

Black Newspapers History Month,

celebrated every year in January, was

founded by Ralph C. Winge, D.D.S.

in 2025 to acknowledge, praise, and respect

the Publishers, Editors, Reporters,

Typesetters, Secretaries, Agents,

Distributors, Newsstands, Paperboys,

and all of the the Team Members,

over the many decades, necessary

to produce and disseminate to Our

Black Beautiful Populations the needed

paper ( and now digital) instruments

to inform, inspire, and promote literacy,

so that Our People can make better

decisions, remember Our Great Histories,

to keep Our People up on current events,

to engage our populations to organize,

provide tips and methods to stay safe

in potentially-hostile environments,

and create mechanisms to construct

Our Enterprises for Our Outstanding Futures.

The Founder of Black Newspapers History Month,

Ralph C. Winge, D.D.S.,

is also a Historical Newspaper enthusiast

and USC Dental School Graduate.
